Florida Anesthetists in Recovery (FLAIR)

FLAIR MISSION STATEMENT: The Florida Anesthetists in Recovery (FLAIR) is a voluntary group of Florida CRNAs with long-term recovery from chemical dependency. It is dedicated to assisting those seeking experience, strength and hope as a result of a present or past history of chemical dependency, and it seeks to assist family members of addicted CRNAs. Our goals are to:

  1. Assist CRNAs suffering from the disease of addiction, by helping them face their disease and locate treatment and/or monitoring options.
  2. Provide a forum for discussion on problems faced by anesthetists in recovery, and to serve in an advocacy role for those individuals deemed by FLAIR to have a genuine need.
  3. Provide long term tracking and monitoring of those CRNAs who have completed their 5-year contract with IPN, and who voluntarily request documentation of continuing abstinence.
  4. Educate our nursing and medical colleagues about the occupational hazard of chemical dependency among anesthesia providers.
  5. Provide suggestions on early detection and intervention of addicted providers.
  6. Provide support, information and assistance to family members of CRNAs who are suffering from chemical dependency.
  7. Offer guidance to the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists Well-Being Committee on matters relating to anesthetists in recovery.

Partners of Anesthetists in Recovery (PAIR)

Mission Statement: Partners of Anesthetists in Recovery (PAIR) is a voluntary support group for spouses, family members, or significant others of anesthetists in recovery. PAIR works in cooperation with Florida Anesthetists in Recovery (FLAIR), offers a forum for discussion and networking with resources.

Rationale: Finding that
Narcotics Anonymous, ALANON, and others were advocating leaving the marriage or relationship, PAIR members felt they needed options that encouraged support. They actually found more hope in attending support groups with their spouses than with ALANON, etc.
